The long awaited Ballyclare Victoria Flute Band Debut CD ‘Stardust’ which has been over 8 months in production is now, finally, at last, on sale!

At the beginning of 2005 Ballyclare Victoria finally made the momentous decision to professionally record their debut CD. In selecting a programme of music for this CD the band have selected a wide variety of music from their extensive repertoire, ranging from popular marches to Latin-American and light classical to film themes. The list of tracks include the timeless Hoagey Carmichael classic ‘Stardust’ (title track of the CD), theme from the epic war film ‘The Great Escape’ and the Mama’s and Papa’s 1960’s No1 hit Monday Monday. Other tracks include the march ‘Aces High’ from another famous war film ‘The Battle of Britain’ and the well known samba ‘Tico Tico’.

After having discussions with a number of recording companies, the band selected local recording company Novatech based at Hydepark Road, Newtownabbey and, in March 2005 the lengthy production process began with the band making a base/guide recording of the proposed CD tracks at Ballyclare Presbyterian Church Hall. These recordings were then used as guide tracks when the final digital recordings were made at the Novatech Digital Recording Studios throughout the next few months. During these studio-recording sessions each flute/percussion section was separately digitally recorded with each member playing along with the base/guide track (played through a set of earphones). This was an unusual experience for band members both young and old and one, which they quickly had to master.

With 15 to 20 separate recording tracks required for each CD track, and, with a total of 11 CD tracks to be completed, the recording process was only completed in early September 2005. These separate recording tracks were then combined, digitally mixed and mastered to form the final recordings now to be heard on the CD. Although the mixing and mastering process again took significant time to complete, the band believes all this time has been well spent, as, this digital multi-track method of recording, mixing and mastering has given the CD a quality and clarity of sound never before heard in a flute band recording. In addition, the artwork and design of the cover and accompanying 8 page booklet has been professionally produced by a graphic artist and also adds very much to a very professionally produced CD of which the band are rightly proud.
